The Darkstalkers Collection is a compilation of the classic arcade games Vampire Savior, Night Warriors: Darkstalkers Revenge, and Darkstalkers 3. It's compatible with PC, which means you can use the Dinput option in the setup to play these games on your computer. You'll need Windows XP or later for this to work. This is the first time these games have been released on a console.The ports of Vampire Savior and Darkstalkers 3 are nearly identical; the biggest difference is that bosses from "Darkstalkers 3" (that appeared as secret characters) such as Demitri Maximoff and Hsien-Ko can now be unlocked as playable characters. Added to the roster are three new characters: Raven, who was first playable in "Vampire Savior"; Lilith, who replaced Morrigan; and Zero (Tateki Orochi), a new character created for this compilation.When playing as Demitri or Hsien-Ko, they will randomly teleport to random locations on screen. This version of "Vampire Savior" was released bundled with a "Darkstalkers Chronicle" magazine.Each disc contains an optical disc, a copy of the game data, a booklet and a set of concept art pages. It also comes with a poster featuring art from the games. The back of each game features interviews with developers at SNK Playmore and Capcom, as well as an index listing all characters in the collection. During launch week, Microsoft automatically discounted Darkstalkers Collection for $20.00 if purchased without any other games at participating retailers (i.e. Gamestop). "Darkstalkers Collection" was critically panned on release, receiving a 34/100 on Metacritic. Many publications, such as IGN and GameSpot, criticized the fact that it lacked any significant features over the original games. Eurogamer's Tom Bramwell called it "a rather sad selection of three compromised late-1990s arcade fighters", criticizing Vampire Savior for its unbalanced gameplay, unimpressive graphics and uninspired character designs. IGN named Darkstalkers Collection one of the ten worst games of 1994. "Darkstalkers Collection" was released prematurely on PSN Japan on October 7, 2011. As of December 23, 2011 the game was removed from PSN due to it being "released too early", without any further details being given for its removal. On March 15, 2012 Mad Catz announced that the game would be distributed through their new online store for $14.99 U.S., with no mention of a release date. The following day, Mad Catz announced that "Darkstalkers Collection" would be available worldwide on April 3, 2012 for $15 (AUD) through their online store and Amazon.
